The people above me in the company hold the power over my future.

My colleagues are my competitors, and those below me are potential competitors.

The people I need to cultivate good relationships with in my work life are my superiors.

Importance of my work life

Superiors >>>>>>> Colleagues >> Subordinates

Generally, the higher you climb in your career, the lonelier and more desolate it becomes.

So, subtly approach a lonely executive in the break room with a beverage in hand.

And offer to be their 'life coach'.

'Executive, I have a concern. Please help me design a better future for myself!'

There's no one around who has more insight than you, Executive.'

If it's awkward to approach them during the day, a company dinner is also a great opportunity.

Everyone likes to be acknowledged and appreciated.

'Someone who recognizes my insight.'

'Someone who considers me close enough to seek career advice from.'

Being perceived as a wise elder or someone they consider 'their person' is quite appealing.

This is more effective than fawning over an executive on their birthday with 'Thank you for being born' or similar flattery.

Our goal isn't to achieve success in our careers,

but to gain influential allies while we're working, thereby achieving peace of mind and free time.

Our goal isn't a life of constraint, but a life of 'freedom'.
